Attachment therapy in Boulder

"You can't do what you want until you know what you're doing."— Moshe Feldenkrais

Because we live in a society with very few truly mindful, present, and attuned adults, many of us do not get our fundamental attachment needs met as children. Your ability to regulate your own emotions, trust yourself and trust life, and feel safe and secure are all first learned from the ways your primary caregivers interacted with you as a child.

The vast majority of adults in our culture have major gaps in their ability to live a conscious, balanced, and fulfilling life. The work of understanding the wounds and gifts that you carry from childhood can be painful, but it bears the fruit of coming to understand yourself and how you show up in each moment. From there, you can start to make different choices.

Using warm, mindful presence and a sensitive approach that balances confrontation with patience and compassion, I help my clients understand how their past experiences contribute to who and how they are today. From there, we work to bring more choice, freedom, and agency on board as the past loosens its grip on you. Ultimately, healing trauma is about living life on your terms, right now.

Approaches I draw from.

The modalities below inform my work. I draw on whichever fits you and the moment we're in.

IFS

Internal Family Systems. Working with the different "parts" of you — including the ones that protect you in ways that no longer serve you.

Gestalt

Emphasizing present-moment experience, personal responsibility, and awareness of how you engage with yourself and others right now.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Practical skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.

ACT

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. Learning to hold difficult thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them.

Somatic Therapy

The body holds what the mind can't always articulate. Somatic work brings attention to physical sensations as a doorway into deeper healing.

Mindfulness-Based

Present-moment awareness serves as a foundation for everything we do.
